Elizabeth This effect of ink residue in the sponge has always been an issue with the olders type of carts such as in the 1160, which contain all sponge, no reservoir. With this type of cart, you had to remove the foam residue after the carts had been refilled a few times. I got the impression that the carts you are using did not have this problem. However if your problem is due to this residue build up, it might be worth trying to remove it. Have a look on the MIS site for instructions on filling the older type of cart. It will show you how to remove this residue. Basically its just a matter of using a bottom fill adapter and a large syringe, to withdraw the ink foam residue. You would have to make sure that your carts are completely empty first, reservoir dry. However I do not know if this would work. Probably best to get advice from MIS. Good luck. Peter.
