RE: [Digital BW] Epson 1280 with MIS UT printing problem

Ben,

No, I rinse them off in place with a syringe fitted with a short rubber tube
or with a bottom fill adapter. I will occasionally wipe them off with a
paper towel between carefully squirting them with the UC base or windex.

I'd rinse the pad and replace the cart with an EZ-refill, sponge-less cart
filled with UC base (4 parts water to 3 parts glycerin). Run a cleaning
cycle to get virtually all the pigs out of the system. (MIS UC
base-flushing fluid at http://www.inksupply.com/ut7500.cfm may be the same
as my formula, but I don't know.)

If it is doing what you want, then there is no more archival or better
inkset of that tone that I am aware of.

I like to be able to do more different things, so I usually have UT2, UT7,
UT-FSN+, Glop, and an endless variety of combinations in my printers.
However, I don't recommend this to most. Find what works for you and is the
least amount of trouble, and stick with it.

Simple monotone inksets can be excellent, and those monotone curves are all
I expect most will ever want to deal with. (In fact, most won't even want
to deal with these, so the Epson driver slider controls of the UT2 and UT7
inksets have some advantages even over a simple grayscale curve.)

> Keep in mind that I am a graduate student,

You might be interested in the monotone curves editing tutorial I have on
line at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/Monotone_Curves.htm .
