Stephen, I know "media type" means "kind of paper." What I'm trying to
find out is what -- if anything -- this setting actually does.

The Epson driver changes its ink curves based on the media type setting.
But that shouldn't be happening here, since I select the curves I want
in the Curves selection box.

What -- if anything -- changes in how the QuadTone RIP prints if I
select, say, Matte Paper instead of Luster in the Media Type selector in
QTR GUI, but don't change curves?

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
