Diane, you're too gentle... digital tech encourages us to think everything is done for us automatically, plug-and-play...allows us to get lazy and assume we don't need to acquire and apply fundamental non-digital photo skills. Contrast/brightness is beautifully adjustable visually in Photoshop and Elements and, partially, in the Gamma setting of QTRgui. Example: The little switch between Epson OEM Photo Black and Matte Black makes a big difference in some images and on some papers, even though both may be "acceptable", considering the workarounds some people do without QTR or Black Only to get B&W. Important, visual, not at all digital.
