Digital BW, The Print

Paul,

MK (matte black) is the Epson ink for use with matte papers,  It does 
not ship with the printer.  The black that ships with the printer is 
PK (photo black) to be used with resin coated (RC) papers.  UC inks 
are the Epson "Ultra Chrome" PIGMENT inks which are standard with the 
2200.

Epson MK is a warm black, and so is the Epson light black.  So BO 
prints with MK will be warm (but very nice).  The Ebony ink from MIS 
is a cool overall, and can appear warm depending on the paper (see 
Clayton's web site for details).

I would suggest initially to load all Epson inks.  Try the warm BO 
method and the share-ware QTR for a number of tones.  If you are 
dissatisfied with them for any reason, then you can try other inks 
like UT7.  I will tell you from experience that IF QTR does not work 
for you overall (i.e., contrast, punch, the inkjet b/w "look"), no 
amount of ink swapping will work any better.  The differences in the 
print between QTR+UC and UT7 is relatively minor.  So when you get a 
new 2200 printer, the default advice is to go with the Epson inks, 
play around with BO, QTR, and ask yourself if it is worth going the 
more complicated route.  If you find BO is your preferred method, by 
all means go with MIS Ebony for a more neutral print.  But if you 
find QTR prints (cool, cool-selenium, warm, sepia, and many 
combinations of two of the aforementioned) acceptable then you are 
better off staying with Epson inks.

When you are playing around initially, use Epson Enhanced Matte paper 
exclusively.  It is readily available and inexpesive to boot.
