Re: [Digital BW] Sharpening images from a Canon 1Ds MKII

2005-04-29 by Eddie Gilbert

Steve et al,

I've been trailing this thread with some interest, and would like to
clarify...

If I aggregate everything you have said, I _think_ you are really
expressing dissatisfaction with the Photokit Sharpener "Capture
Sharpening" when used with the 1Ds MkII, correct?

Many of the response postings on this thread seem to be suggesting
general sharpening approaches, probably better suited for final-use
(i.e., print, etc.) sharpening, as opposed to the much more subtle
capture process counteraction sharpening done by the Photokit Capture
Sharpener.

The clarification is relevant for anyone who has adopted the
three-phase sharpening workflow afforded by the Photokit Sharpener
tools, like myself.

If the clarification is correct, then I am very interested in what you
learn, Steve, from Bruce Fraser on this topic. I myself am a recent
convert from the 1Ds to the 1Ds MkII, and I agree that the Photokit
Capture Sharpener (Hi-Res Digital) seems to be less effective for the
capture sharpening stage with the 1Ds MkII than it did with the 1Ds. I
wasn't sure if it was my imagination, or just the nature of the images
I had tested, and I had not done exhaustive testing, but my impression
was that perhaps the Photokit Capture Sharpening toolset needed another
update to accommodate the 1Ds MkII.

Please update the group on what you learn from Bruce, and let me know
if I can help get to the bottom of this. I really appreciated Photokit
Sharpener's sharpening workflow approach with my 1Ds, and hope to
maintain its benefits with the 1Ds MkII as well.

Regards,
/eddie
