Using Paul Roark's step wedge (Files) my SynchMaster192N LCD monitor distinctly /easily separates every 5% up to 90% in fairly bright indirect daylight, faintly (but actually) visually separating 90-95-100%. In use it appears somewhere between EEM and Moab Entrada. I use no external devices to calibrate, do find monitor's B&W contrast/density/tones accurate Vs prints except for graininess, which can hide tiny dust for prints above A4. I'm dealing with a lot of sharp-grained fast 35mm B&W (various films at 800ei w/Rodinal or Neofin), the monitor's grain is no issue with finer films. Sins of my youth :-) Does/do your LCD monitor/s differentiate distinctly /easily in bright room light between 90-95-100% ? What LCD monitor are you using? Your grain experience..is there a way to reduce monitor grain?
