Hi Stephen, I have a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070SB, which is the same unit as the large Lacie but without the shade. It's generally a little cheaper than the Lacie, and it's trivial to make an adjustable shade out of some stiff black card. Sure, it does look homemade, but it's actually more flexible than a fixed shade as I can slide it back out of the way if I want to show something to a group of people or else slide if forward to make it much deeper than the fixed shades ever are. Overall I'm very happy with the monitor and appreciate the large size. However... I'm a lurker on a couple of colour-management and pro press type lists (http://www.lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/colorsync-users/ and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/colortheory/). The guys there regard the Sony Artisan as the undisputed benchmark. The Lacies/Mitsis are known as decent products, but the received wisdom was that if you have the money, get the Artisan. Given that these same people seem to think that the (very expensive and widely praised) Eizo CG220 flat-panel is not up to the mark, it seems safe to assume that their standards are high. I realise that all this is hearsay but if you search the recent history of the groups you should find some info that is closer to the source. I am considering the Sony Artisan-or whatever it's called now-and it's about $1,700 which is doable but, if there is something close for substantially less, I'd like to know about it. Thanks. ============================================================================== This message is for the sole use of the intended recipient.
