I've been using the Ilford Classic Pearl for my pigment Epson C80 without smudging or drying problems. Maybe the recommendation is reversed?

Subject: [Digital BW] Ilford Gallerie Papers-Revisited

| Hello from Iowa,
| I wanted to check back and see if anyone has had more experience with
| the Ilford Pearls. The Classic is recommended for dye based inks so
| I have been profiling it with the Epson oem inks for color printing
| and so far it looks very good. The Smooth Pearl supposedly works
| with pigment inks and is fast drying. Well, the tone with MIS FS is
| beautiful, but 4 hours after printing I can still smudge ink in the
| midtones. I'm hoping someone has had it longer and knows that it
| really dries.
| Thanks, Hap
