The only way around your problem I know of is to buy a third party RIP such as Imageprint which is not cheap but gives a beautiful B&W( with minimal metamerism) and color print. This is what I use personally, and I have been pleased with the results. One recommendation I would make is that if you saturate your colors, use a mask to prevent the increased saturation from affecting the B&W portion of your image. Otherwise, increasing saturation will result in unwanted tints in the B&W areas. cheers!
