As I mentioned in another post, I had a custom profile made with the driver set to PhotoRealistic mode instead of No Colour Management. While this apparently restricts the gamut, it also seems to result in curves with minimal crossover. The Archival Matte profile I have produces quite neutral grayscale, and would therefore allow you to do what you want. OTOH, Semi Gloss still suffers problems.
