yes, printshield does tone down the gloss of kirkland quite a bit, but it does not really increase the gloss of semi-matte. Semi-matte has only a little bit of texture. Semi-gloss has the same amount of texture as luster if you ask me, it's just a little diferent kind of texture. The semi-matte surface is pretty nice, and I think it is closer to gloss than luster. Printshield on kirkland gets it pretty close to semimatte, and the image quality is maybe a tad better with kirkland. The semimatte is kind of picky, and you may need to use 2880, or a higher resolution than you need with kirkland....Keep in mind that I use a 1280 for BW........ by the way, I also use the c86 for color, and have found that with the mac driver, only two papers give me a bulletproof colormatch. Those are EEM, and the cheap "glossy photo paper" niether of which are archival, but that is ok for me because i just print snaps in color, or if I do a 8x10 in color, I am fine with reprinting it in the future. The c86 in color has a kind of nice vibe on these papers, but I am sure the better printers are way better. Surprisingly nice color with these two papers though. All the other papers have a blue color cast with my mac/epson driver, even the durabrite glossy paper made only for this inkset has the blue cast.
