Hi
note: Ive not used VS for a 1/2 year so hopefully Im accurate here.
Also, make sure to read the Vuescan settings guide, as there
are many
settings too many to go over here
1-when scanning raw, having selected "image" on the 1st screen as your
type, and also of course selecting the raw file type on the output
page...your generated file is an unadjusted capture of whatever you
have scanned, without any adjustment.
Were you to open the generated raw file in PS, it would appear as a
negative.
regarding the settings, and which are used.
the color settings are not used and can be left alone.
After completing a raw scan, you then scan that raw image by browsing
to the file on the first screen
At that point, color adjustments etc are made. Make sure you set your
.tif output settings prior to this and after teh raw scan
2-as above, when scanning a previously generated raw file, just browse
to it from the first screen (file selection area in the upper portion
of the window.
you can do this as many times as you wish.
Ensure that your initial raw settings are proper and you wont have to
rescan the actual neg.
When scanning raw, remember to give enough resolution for what
youthink you will ever need, such as to avoid either having to
interpolate or rescan the neg
3-raw files are .tif, though in your naming prefix section in
preferences you can set teh default to ???_raw.tif if you want
4- upper histogram is the "As is" histogram, there are sliders for
shad, mid, and highlight. Moving these around will change the output
histogram below.
