CIS problem with 1160

2005-05-29 by Peter Marquis-Kyle

I'm stumped, and I'm looking for help.

On Friday night I installed a NoMoreCarts.com CIS in one of my 1160 printers. I
fitted a new pair of empty NoMoreCarts cartridges to a pre-used (but clean) set
of tubes, charged the system with ink (Generations 4 colour ink, but I hope that
doesn't rule my call for help inadmissible here), and installed it in the
printer.

This particular printer had been operating correctly with Epson carts. Nothing
abnormal happened during the vacuum filling operation.

I got a good check from the black nozzles, but only a few spurts of colour. I
did a few cleaning cycles, still no good, so I went to bed.

On Saturday morning I tried another nozzle check. K good, Y fair, M and C
missing. More cleaning cycles. More waiting. Still no good. I removed the colour
cart and used a bare syringe to suck ink from each port, then refitted the cart
in the printer. More cleaning cycles, but M and C still missing.

Today (Sunday) I swapped CISs between my two printers. The other CIS (MIS quads)
worked fine in both printers, so I don't think I have a printer problem.

During the swap I checked the 'new' CIS out of the printer -- all four inks were
dripping out of their ports, so I don't think I have a blockage. I installed the
system in the printer that had been printing quads, but still no M or C.

Through the day I have tried cleaning cycles and nozzle checks, but no
improvement. I don't know what to do next.

I am -- how should I put this politely in a multi-national forum? --
exasperated.

I am open to any suggestions.
