Digital BW, The Print

Actually, regardless of what one thinks of whether he has a pro-Epson bias, I 
found the interview worth listening to.  Yes, he gushes about the new printers, 
but it's informative gushing -- it really gave me more of a feel for what the new 
printers can do (well, Pete Walsh's blog is more informative in this respect, but 
since the printers aren't actually shipping in the US yet, I'll take all the real-
world info I can get).  And he does have some specific criticisms that I agree 
with: (a) Epson (or somebody) needs to make a heavyweight smooth gloss 
paper that resembles air-dried fiber paper (rather than the unpleasant plastic 
feel of current glossy papers, which I don't use unless I absolutely have to), (b) 
the Advanced B&W mode in the Epson driver for the new printers should 
allow you to see a preview of its effect on your own image, not the generic 
one that apparently is there now, and (c) they should have made the new 
printers 9 inks rather than 8 so that that you can have Matte Black and Photo 
Black installed at the same time (and still get the "light light black" ink in there 
too).  He made a particular point about pressing Epson on points (a) and (b) 
and he apparently has Epson's ear, so I wish him luck in getting Epson to take 
these concerns seriously.  Since I definitely do not have Epson's ear, it can 
only benefit me if they listen to him, paid spokesman or not.
