Quality of Color Neg Film vs B&W

I am considering shooting only color film (overseas) and having it processed before I leave 
for the states, (either E-6 or C-41).  Then scanning and using grayscale for B&W.  Is this 
crazy?  Will I lose image quality not using black and white film?  I am a Quad tone fine art 
printer and make 24x30 images all the time.

Help?
