And or maybe a color filter in front of the lens, like you might use with black and white film. Just a guess at would I might try, might not work at all. The color fringing isn't just a problem with the "cheap" digitals, take a good close look at the latest Getty test image. somewhat hidden, but the problem is there, most easily seen in the clock face (if my memory is correct).
