Bee, Not true! The 1280 is the American version and the 1290 the European version, and they have differences mainly because of the different paper sizes in America and Europe. Because these printers print right to the edge on certain standard paper sizes, they have to have extra pads to catch the overspray (otherwise it would spray onto the black plastic strip across the innards which the paper slides over and then get onto the back of your paper). So the pads are in different places in each printer to cope with the different standard paper sizes in America and Europe and the drivers therefore have to have slightly different software as well.
