The 1280 and 1290 are the exact same thing; different names in different
areas, that's all.

This is the alert of Paul Roark at the workflow page of MIS:

»This 1280 Mac workflow is very printer specific and does not work for other
printer model numbers. If you have a 1290 printer, the Epson driver for the
1280 must be used...«

My friend tried to install the 1280driver but his G4 Mac OS 9.2 German does
not accept the available english version of the 1280 driver, so it can´t be
used here for his 1290 printer.

The VM inks controlled by the 1290driver gives nasty results looking like
solarized in the black areas.

Accordingly my friends problem is to get the 1280 printer loaded and make it
work.

Any help?

Bee,

That's what I used to say aswell... until I realised along with others here
that the 1280 Printer driver prints differently from the 1290 driver. Of
course, that doesn't mean the printer is different, but there was some
'other stuff' going on that suggested the firmware inside may be more
different than we expected.

Bee,

Not true! The 1280 is the American version and the 1290 the European
version, and they have differences mainly because of the different paper
sizes in America and Europe. Because these printers print right to the edge
on certain standard paper sizes, they have to have extra pads to catch the
overspray (otherwise it would spray onto the black plastic strip across the
innards which the paper slides over and then get onto the back of your
paper). So the pads are in different places in each printer to cope with the
different standard paper sizes in America and Europe and the drivers
therefore have to have slightly different software as well.
