Digital BW, The Print

Various discussions herein on the Epson 2400's black
K3 inks have focused on using the Photo Black ink on
matte and semi-matte papers.

My understanding, although perhaps incorrect, is that,
while Epson's new 4800 printer requires one to swap
between the Photo Black and Matte Black inks, the 2400
holds both cartridges at the same time, and thus no
swapping is needed.  Is this correct?  And if so, why
are people discussing the performance of Photo Black
ink on matte and semi-matte papers?
