Jerry - My address is actually on Highway 1, so I see some of this stuff every day. You've got the high points identified, but, if you have time, just take any turnoff and follow your nose. There is so much natural beauty here. The grapes are in full dress now, so the countryside is very appealing. However, the vineyards can be a real challenge to photograph. Some of the beautiful places are only accessible by foot. Point Sal, near Vandenberg, is a great place. But the road has been closed for some time. If you have time to take the walk, it's worth it. The Guadeloupe/Oceano dunes are great. It's an ify deal to photograph due to the fog that is present this time of year. While you'll need to walk some, the Guadeloupe Dunes are nicer than the Pismo/Oceano dunes because the Guadeloupe Dunes are closed to vehicles, Pismo/Oceano is not. And, obviously, don't forget Point Lobos. One other thing. While ist's not something to be paranoid about, you need to remember that the Central Coast is rattlesnake country. If you're hiking keep this in mind. I've only seen a few here, but they're around. Have fun. My girlfriend are planning a trip to California in late August (San Francisco -> Monterey -> Big Sur -> Oceano -> Santa Barbara) and I was wondering if any of the many wonderful photographers here have suggestions for "must shoot" locations for any of the above itinerary? The dunes of Oceano are high on our list but other than fantastic coastline and whatever we stumble across, we don't have any specific destinations in mind. Any suggestions?
