If you take them out each time you can check for air pockets, and 
visually check the ink level in each compartment; you don't want to 
let the head run dry, it could damage it. If you want to avoid the 
initial fill cycle, you might try momentarily turning of the printer 
just after re-inserting the full cart. With some printers this works.
