Mike, > >I keep a syringe full of water, rinse off the outlet, tape and store > >the carts that I am not using at the time. > > What do you tape? Why? After I've rinsed the cartridge outlet I put tape over it. I'm slightly worried about dried ink getting into the printer. So, the thinking is that if I rinse the outlet most of the ink that would potentially dry has been washed away. The tape is just another extra step along the same lines. It might also keep dust or other foreign objects out. > >Occasionally I've had a bad chip, > > How can you tell? The red light on the printer stays on or the ink monitor says there is no or the wrong cart installed. It's obvious that something is amiss when a chip is bad. > And, do you have any guidelines how many times you can refill these > cartridges? I don't know how long they will last. It might relate to whether ink in the sponge has turned to foam and dried a bit. I think filling the carts such that a bit of the sponge stays white at the top might help. Also, never allowing the ink level to get down to the point where the sponge is exposed that is between the reservoir and the sponge-filled area might help, but I have not had enough bad experiences to know.
