I saw, can't recall just where, that it is important to keep the firmware of the translator up to date. I think that comment was in relation to the Oxford chip set. On the other hand, USB 2 max speed is marginally faster than Firewire, as I recall, 400 vs 480. I haven't tried a firewire 800 on a PC or an external SATA but those should really fly. I guess the bottom line is that there is more to the question than just the drive itself.
