Paul-

I wonder if this is from the various test prints you run? I've 
noticed that ink sometimes gets everywhere if the output size of the 
paper is not the same as the image size... So that the heads are 
moving over the carriage where there is, in fact, no paper.

The only time I can actually see the print heads go over to the left 
pad is when you move it over there to change the cartridges.
