The "small patch technology" really doesn't work for making full color profiles! I bought the Design because I needed a new spectro, and tried the software just for fun. The small patch CMYK is the ugliest result I have ever seen!!! Even after setting up a new RIP and making sure all the limiting and linearizations were correct, that small CMYK target could not make anything that even comes close to correct. The RGB is only slightly better. The good thing is the Design comes with a 50% off coupon for an upgrade to the full RGB or the full CMYK, so you can get the same ability as the i1 photo at making printer profiles for a few hundred less (RGB profiles). You won't get things like the beamer hardware, and a couple other things, but you might never use those anyway. You might consider getting the UV filtered Design, but that's up to you. I also suggest downloading the Colorport utility from Xrite, it's free for now. Search here for more info on Colorport.
