Re: [Digital BW] What to do with a partially disabled 1160

Peter..

BOTH of my 1160's ended their lives within the past year..I honestly feel
that having a CFS/CIS system on each caused theeir early demise..It's not
the addition of the continuous ink supply that caused their untimely end,
IMHO, it was the ENDLESS clean/purgeing cycles I need to do just in order to
make a few prints!..During the past 3 years I used one for color and one for
B&W..all with either MIS GP/VMS/Generations pigmented inks..I strongly fell
my problems were sponge-cartridge related..I've sinced moved over to 2 Epson
1280's @ about $260.00 net each (after $100 rebate) with MIS new
spongless/chip resettable and re-filliable carts, and no more EXTENDED
cleaning cycles or clogs!..I'm now using Lyson's FOTONIC Dyes for color
(sprayed with PRINTSHIELD), and MIS UT2 B&W inksets..NO PROBLEMS
WHATSOEVER..And I think about the ink I'm saving by not doing all those
cleanings/purgings!..It looks like your headed in the right direction
Peter....ARDITO's in NY wants about 250 ea to replace the heads on my
1160s..I didn't see the economy..Any one want a couple of CIS units for an
1160 (cheap!)??..

Just my 2 cents..

I have a 1160 that has come back from my local Epson technician with the
news that the magenta head is, indeed, hopelessly blocked. I also have a
bunch of spongeless carts, bottles of MIS UT-quad inks, and QuadToneRIP.

I still want to make prints. I'd appreciate your comments on what I
should do. So far, I have thought of these options:

1
Have the print head replaced. This is likely to cost as much as the
printer is worth, and I'm not inclined to do that...

2
Just load the eboni K and enjoy the BO experience. An easy option...

3
Load the M ink in the Y chamber of the carts. Make a new QTR curve based
on the UT-EEnhMatte-warm curve, but with the M ink curve assigned to the
Y channel. I don't know exactly how to do this, but I guess it should
not be beyond me, though the results are too warm for my taste. This
seems like a bit of farting around, for a result I don't really want...

4
Give up...

Your comments please, or other suggestions?
