The 1160 does not need the FS-Y (lightest) ink to be smooth. FS-M is sufficient. So, I'd go with option #3. Note that the 1160 variable-tone curves are based on using a toner in the Y spot. The M spot then has a light ink that is about half way between the FS Y and M inks. In the variable tone inksets, this light gray is pure carbon, so you might not want to use it. The variable-tone warm curve, that cuts out the toner, will give you an idea of what a curve that just uses 3 inks would look like.
