Hello Paul, >I do remember several posts sometime ago with your name and address >on them extolling the virtue of your then current camera, a Canon >Pro 1 if I remember correctly. I appreciated what you had to say >even though it had little to do with "Digital Black and White The >Print. I knew someone was going to say this & was wondering who it would be. Yes, it's true, and I and the other participants were requested on one occasion by the (once upon a time) forum administrator to end it when it began to run away with itself. I learned, and have come to appreciate more what a special thing we have here. I also have said more than once that I like the occasional OT thread as long as it doesn't get out of hand and dominate the forum, and it's still true. Please notice, however, that there is a condition attached to the idea: that it doesn't get out of hand and dominate the forum. Nobody wants a rigid autocratic forum, but there are limits. I think that condition has clearly been violated in this case. Our forum administrator has on occasion had to remind everyone what we are about and request that we use restraint and good sense, to try to stay on topic and keep any OT threads short. I have been waiting (in vain, unfortunately) for him to say something this time and finally couldn't stand it any more. This is pretty much a self-policing operation now. That means that now and then someone has to speak up. What surprises me more than the fact that an OT thread has gotten out of hand (it's not unusual and happens on occasion), is that anyone would object to a request that we get back on topic and restore and preserve what has made this arguably the best forum on the web. Is that so bad? I would hope that anyone who truly values this forum would appreciate the occasional hand on the tiller to keep us on a good course. Too bad our administrator seems to have evaporated. Maybe Scotty beamed him up <g>. >Again, really appreciate your contributions to this forum and >continue to look forward to them. Thanks.
