Where did printing go?

Can someone please tell me where the printing forum went? It used to

I can appreciate what you are saying Clayton, but we need to capture images
before we can print them. When all of the Analog Legacy Data goes away (some
people still call it film, which, to me, is a 4-letter word that starts with
F) we will all be working with these types of scene recording devices.

As I recall, you were singing Canon praises a while back as well with the
Pro 1. Now imagine that kind of performance, plus 60% sharper and a usable ISO
1600!

It's a pause for the wrong cause, perhaps, but a darn good one for those who
want to keep printing new images with the higher resolution solutions
presented by you and others here.

Besides, the 5D has a terrific B&W mode with different filters built in.

Hello Claude,

A rather poor attempt to justify all the camera talk. I do believe
that we needed cameras to capture images back when film was king, but
that wasn't an excuse to turn this into a camera forum (as if there
aren't enough already). Has something changed since digital cameras
came along?

One of the great things about this forum (in the past) is it used to
stay true to its purpose, with only occasional minor straying from the
track. How refreshing it was to have a gathering place that didn't
get clogged up with all the camera blather that is identical to all
the other camera blather in 30 or 40 other forums, take your pick.
How many times does the world need yet more discussions of Film vs
Digital, Canon vs Nikon, ad infinitum? Used to be we had a forum
administrator who would step in now and then and keep things in line,
but he seems to have retired. How sad. Martin, where are you?

If you want to talk about cameras so badly, how about all of you go
over to the dpreview Canon Talk forum and start a new thread and
continue there? That's what it's for. That's not what this forum is
for. Enough already!

Clayton

Hello Clayton,

I usually lurk here and have learned a great deal. Have really
enjoyed your posts and clearness of your vision and ability to
articulate it.

I do remember several posts sometime ago with your name and address
on them extolling the virtue of your then current camera, a Canon Pro
1 if I remember correctly. I appreciated what you had to say even
though it had little to do with "Digital Black and White The Print.
I am also enjoying the current thread regarding the evolution of
digital capture. What is good for the goose is.....

Again, really appreciate your contributions to this forum and
continue to look forward to them.

Paul

I knew someone was going to say this & was wondering who it would be.
Yes, it's true, and I and the other participants were requested on
one occasion by the (once upon a time) forum administrator to end it
when it began to run away with itself. I learned, and have come to
appreciate more what a special thing we have here. I also have said
more than once that I like the occasional OT thread as long as it
doesn't get out of hand and dominate the forum, and it's still true.

Please notice, however, that there is a condition attached to the
idea: that it doesn't get out of hand and dominate the forum. Nobody
wants a rigid autocratic forum, but there are limits. I think that
condition has clearly been violated in this case. Our forum
administrator has on occasion had to remind everyone what we are about
and request that we use restraint and good sense, to try to stay on
topic and keep any OT threads short. I have been waiting (in vain,
unfortunately) for him to say something this time and finally couldn't
stand it any more. This is pretty much a self-policing operation now.
That means that now and then someone has to speak up.

What surprises me more than the fact that an OT thread has gotten out
of hand (it's not unusual and happens on occasion), is that anyone
would object to a request that we get back on topic and restore and
preserve what has made this arguably the best forum on the web. Is
that so bad? I would hope that anyone who truly values this forum
would appreciate the occasional hand on the tiller to keep us on a
good course. Too bad our administrator seems to have evaporated.
Maybe Scotty beamed him up <g>.

Thanks.
