Thank you John,
You are right. I recently changed to a Mac after seven years of PC's, on the advice of a graphic designer. I am floundering may way around. I downloaded an updated 1160 driver for Mac from Epson's website. I followed the instructions for expanding the file and installing and assumed that when I got the message 'Installation Complete', that was what it meant. After your email I did more poking about and found that not to be the case. However, now that I do have the correct driver installed, the problem still exists. I am still getting posterisation, not continuous tones.
Thanks for your help anyway.
David Herrod.

prints which are better. The posterisation is now not evident, but the prints look a bit 'flat' -
lacking depth in the dark tones.

Dave stop right there! Are you using Paul's curves or are you using QTR? If you are using
Paul's curves then use Epson's print driver but...when you mention EvenTone that's part of
the Gimp driver not Epson's print driver.
I'm going to take a wild guess that you are on a Mac and you chose the wrong print driver in
the Printer Setup Utility.
