a new 1280 w/UT2 or use 2200 w/QTR

2005-09-07 by avellan67

Hello everyone,

Hoping someone who has used both printers can help me make a
decision. I have been
using a 1280 w/UT2 and the Quadtone rip for my BW and I have loved
the prints out of it. I
also have a 2200 w/ OEM inks that I of course have used for my color
prints.

My 1280 went down 2 wks ago and it turn out that it was the waste pad
ink problem and I
got hold of the reset procedure. That took care of that problem but
even before the waste
ink problem I was having problems with getting a good nozzle check. I
put the OEM inks
back in and purged and cleaned, but I still can't get a good confirm.
I think the printheads
are bad and that has me thinking about buying a new one or using the
2200. Why?
Because if I take it to a repair center I am worried that the bill
may be up to $200 with
fixing or replacing the printhead and general maintenance of the
printer since the waste
ink issue came up. I also think that the printheads are bad because I
think I read
somewhere that it is possible to burn it out from too many head
cleanings. I had used CIS
initially but did not use it enough and had too many clogs. I since
switched to prefilled
cartridges since I no longer wanted to be bothered with the refilling
and all that.

So the question is. I have used exclusively for me the 80-15 blend in
Quadtone since I love
the color of that BW with the 1280. Will I get the same results with
the 2200 using the
Quadtone rip?

I know I can print it myself and find the answer for myself. But I
guess what I need to know
and I can't do myself is the testing of the longevity and the fading
of the prints. Has
anyone done this?

I have it in my head that it is impossible to match the color of the
UT2 inks with a set of
color inks, but I just can't afford to buy another printer right now.
Even though there is a
$100 rebate in the 1280. I would rather hold off till I can get the
2400, but I do not want
to start printing on the 2200 if the prints are going to fade or
shift colors. And also tweak
the profiles to get it to match the 1280.

Sorry this is so long. Just airing out my thought process. Hope
someone can see what I am
asking for in this convoluted long question. :)

Thank you

Ivan
