Epson 2200/MIS UT/MIS CFS: Dreaded Blinking Red Lights

2005-09-23 by Jon Witsell

-sigh-

I've been using the MIS UT/CFS combo for quite some time now, and it
has been mostly
glitch-free. However, this week has been a real headache.

I was in the middle of doing a nozzle check and the Epson printer
utility hiccuped, and the
red light on cart #2 (from the left, Eboni) went on. I tried
reseating the cart, unplugging the
printer, etc., to no avail. The printer utility kept giving the
message that the cart needed to be
replaced.

Even though the CFS isn't under warranty any longer, MIS sent me a
Priority Mail letter with a
new chip in it.

Tonight I replaced the chip (it snapped right into place), plugged in
the printer, and turned it
on. The head moved back and forth and... now I have two flashing red
lights (cart #1, photo
black position; cart #2, Eboni), and the printer utility is telling
me "Incompatible combination
of ink cartridges installed, replace Photo Black, Light Black, Matte
Black."

WTF? Anybody have any idea what happened? I'm assuming I have to
replace both chips...
