Re: [Digital BW] Epson R2400 profiles

Thanks very much Steve! at least you were kind enough to offer a helpful
suggestion and point me in the right direction. My main issue was where in
PhotoShop do you place these and how do you access them. I really did not
think that was asking too much.

You first need to understand the principles of colour management. It's not
mumbo jumbo. The concepts are straight forward even if the technology to
apply them is sophisticated. For general colour management tutorials see
here:

http://www.computer-darkroom.com/home.htm

I would also recommend Bruce Fraser's Real World Color Management book.
Understand the colour world and then learn how and why it breaks down with
B&W.

When people talk about curves they are most often not referring to anything
related to the colour management sphere. They are talking about the
description files which control some of the RIPs out there. For example, if
one is using Quadtone RIP to print B&W the greyscale output (and
particularly the hue) is controlled by selecting one "curve" or blending two
"curves" (eg warm/brown or cold/blue).

So you need to distinguish between "profiles", which are most often ICC
profiles for colour work and more recently QTR Create ICC profiles for B&W
work and are used for colour management, and "curves" which control RIPs
(made all the more confusing by Roy now filing the QTR curves under
profiles).

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Steve
