Re: [Digital BW] Refilling C86 carts - MIS inks & hardware

2005-10-03 by Al Young

Hi Paul

The bottom of my Readme file on the C86 may be helpful to you. Let me know
if any of those URLs is outdated.

-- The links seem to work fine. The Readme file is indeed very helpful.

I've been working on the R200 for a couple of days, filling, re-filling, and
swapping carts and chips very frequently. The R200 carts are the same as
the C86 carts.

The good news is that I have had 100% good nozzle checks the first and every
time during this process. I think one key has been the priming that is now
done with the stopper out and air inlet blocked with a finger.

-- I haven't had occasion to do a nozzle check yet (it's worked perfectly
from the get-go, 1st time, every time). I presume the carts aren't moving
back and forth during a nozzle check, thus allowing you to easily keep a
finger on the air inlet.

The main glitch I've run into is that some of the carts do not register at
first. The red light on the printer comes on. I go to the Ink Status
Monitor in the driver to see which cart is the problem. While wiggling the
cart a bit sometimes is all that is needed, the problem appears to be
marginal contact between the chip and the contacts. I've been able to fix
this by simply putting a small piece of tape in the well of the cart's chip
holder before putting the chip in. (I use a small piece of tape across the
top of the chip to hold it in but in a manner that I can swap chips easily.)

-- Paul, do you recommend resetting existing chips or using new ones?

Thanks!

Al
