C86 coarseness

2005-11-08 by Peter De Smidt

Well I've just got done with a big color archiving/printing project, and
I've had some time to work with the EZ inks on my c86, using Paul's
settings/curves and Epson premium semi-matte and Innova Fiba print. In
fact I just did my first 8x10 print from a scanned 4x5 negative, and I'm
noticing some coarseness in smooth toned, light areas. At first I
thought this was a result of sharpening, and so just for fun I turned it
all off: The coarseness was still there. (It looks like fine grain.)
It's worse on the Innova than on the Semi-matte Are the R200 and R2400
free of this coarseness? I also am getting some micro-banding, at least
I assume that's what it is.
