RE: [Digital BW] (OT) Color profile for Museo Max

Diana,
Yes, you can use color controls if you are willing to give up some of the
gamut. It gives you some control over the ink load, providing output closer
to linear. Most people however, are so fixated on gamut size, that is their
only goal.
I found that using the color control driver setting, Velvet fine art, gamma
2.2, brightness +2, on museo max results in good separation for
R,G,B,C,M,Y,K, without overinking, but the Dmax goes up to 1.63. More
exploration may find a setting that gets closer to the 1.65 capability on my
printer. If Epson offered an advanced driver with ink limits, and could be
linearized, now that would be something.....
I find that for images where maximum gamut is not the primary concern, a
profile based on a color control driver setting produces smoother output
results. I usually make two profiles for each paper, one from the no-ICM
setting, which I use for very colorful images, and one using color controls
for where the former shows excessive posterization in the soft proof. The
gamut capability of this paper seems to be similar to Hahnemuhle photo rag.
I'll have to try a few more things before having an opinion as to what seems
to work for me. It's nice having so many good papers available now; more
than most of us have time to try.

Best regards,
John Moody

Are there any other settings available?

  Thanks Diane,
With the epson driver, I tried no-ICM settings for Enhanced matte, Velvet
Fine Art, and Watercolor radiant white settings. For all of those, it is
too much ink for optimum Dmax.
