Yes, you can "turn off" the cartridge sensor, at least with the 9500. I have
done it with both of mine (I run a CIS with Gen4 on my 9000 upgraded to
9500, and Indelibles on the new 9500). I will have to look up the
instructions, if someone would like to know the specifics.

to run indelible inks in 9000 carts) is to call epson, and they can
tell you how to turn off that sensor in the 7500.  They will put up a
huge fight, because you are not using their ink.  But that sensor
can
be turned off, and then the printer doesn't care which kind of cart
goes in there.
