Glossy Prints on the Epson 2400

2005-12-08 by mxgo95747

I just finished printing (8"by 10") on Kirkland and Pictorico hi-gloss white film glossy
papers. All settings were the same, the kirkland paper makes an excellent proofing paper
for the Pictorico paper. To my eyes, it appears that the picotorico is just slightly warmer
than the kirkland. For example, I printed both papers with the following setting 2h, 10v &
dark, a-5% ink, and photo glossy paper (Epson setting). The pictorico is slightly warmer.

I then tried the following settings changes (all other settings the same): Kirkland at 1h,2v
and the pictorico at 1h, 5v and that gives about the same warm tone. However, the white
on the pictorico appears whiter, but the mid tones about the same. Overall, the pictorico
prints look slightly better; The kirkland paper print is just slightly flatter (just slightly).

I should state that I like a very slight warm tone to my prints.

Also, as a matter of interest, I also compared a Kodak Luster RC lab print against the
above prints (same negative) and the RC print appears to be warmer; at about 2h, 10v on
the Epson 2400 toning wheel. These results brought to mind, what others on this forum
have said, "lab papers do have their color casts." The RC was printed about three years
ago. It was never in direct sunlight and under glass for about a year to a year and a half. I
don't know if the warmer tone of the RC is due to aging

The kirkland and pictorico prints look sharper and darker than the RC print. But then
again, they were printed yesterday.
