David, 
 I had the exact same problem on my 1270, MIS pigs, &
NMC CIS.  However, the overspray on mine was more with
the cyan than magenta.  
 I took out the CIS cart and pushed it back in firmly
then set the paper thickness lever(+/0) to 0.  That
fixed it for me.  Although if I put the lever back to
the + setting, the overspray continues, though less
severe than before.  I just print at the 0 setting. 
It's not a problem with thicker paper.
 I would try this and see if it works for you.  Also,
did you try putting back in an Epson OEM cart and
running a test print with that?  
 When I was trying to figure out the problem, I posted

 Let me know if this works for you or if you find some
