Will you let us know what you find out?  In the past (a couple years 
ago) there were not that many higher res images scanned, but one could
order a print, and at the time they offered one quality to most folks, 
but if you told them you were an academic and needed the print(s) for 
teaching purposes, it was possible to obtain higher quality.

Since the scanning is supposed to be an on-gong project, perhaps now 
one can request a decent scan, rather than a print, which would be 
terrific.
