RC glossy papers can beat the silver print dmax, but many don't like that look either. Under glass, I find the best smooth matte papers look very much like a silver print under glass. Most matte papers have a poor dmax, however. Hahnemuhle Photo Rag is traditionally the best, with EEM (not archival due to acid) and Innova papers being close. I like the PremierArt 205 due to price and reasonable dmax -- which means over 1.60. You can see what I use at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/R220_R2_Readme.htm . Be sure in processing your image that you have some very small 100% blacks in the image. Use levels with the Alt key down as you slide the points in from the ends to set it. Good luck.
