Hello Lea, Unfortunately I have no good news-that problem is caused by the head controler board or the head itself going bad, and the repair bill is too high to make sense considering you can still get factory refurbished 1280s for what it costs to have them repaired plus shipping-sorry. If you print primarily in one tone you could relocate the relevant ink shades and eliminate the positions that are not being controled properly. That might give you some aditional mileage while you decide what to replace it with.
