Digital BW, The Print

For some time I've been annoyed that I must load one sheet at a time
of Velvet Fine Art of 8.5X11 in the rear of my R1800. This is what the
manual and the printer driver tell you to do with this paper.
 Today I tried placing the paper in my normal front sheet load area
and it worked just fine!
 Anyone know why Epson wants it placed in the rear loading device?
