Digital BW, The Print

I am wondering how to do the following:

I have a background image layer with a levels and curves layer above it 
in the stack.  I then want to place a second (partial area) image layer 
at the top of the stack with its own levels and curves layers above 
it.  I do not want the second pair of adjustment layers to affect the 
background image layer.  In other words, I want to be able to adjust 
each of the two image layers spearately with their own pairs of 
adjustment layers.  Is there a way to do this?
