Cheaper printers is not as much of an issue here, as more affordable printing. Currently self-printed photo prints cost much more than ordered photo prints; if Epson succeeds in shutting down the third party ink market, then the balance of factors in photoprinter choices will become even more focused Competition against Epson will be based (since print quality is already fine from all three vendors, and longevity issues are being attacked by Canon as we speak) on TCO: Total Cost of Ownership, which is based on the cost of the device, inks, and media, factoring in warranty, repair costs, and longevity.
