Hi there Serge I am printing B&W with a 1290 and for me it works OK. Not perfect at all times, and I feel that my system needs a bit of attention to keep it working without too much trouble. But the prints is really nice! The good thing about 1290 is that you can get them cheap second hand. I have bought two for the price of a little more than half a new R2400. Still, If I had the money I would go for the Epson R2400 - according to what people tell on this list. Its a simple, almost no hassle road to fine art B&W printing as I understand it. I am not using the MIS inks, but I had not heard of any experience with them when I started out printing B&W. I bought iQuads from InkjetMall / Cone. The inks are PiezoTones "Selenium" with the Portfolio Black that have som dye in it to get better blacks. How these inks compare to MIS FS inks with Eboni I dont know, but I am sure someone on this list can tell. I went for PiezoTone because of the supposed lightfastness. I guess MIS FS inks are about the same. I do get clogs from time to time, but they are easy to remove most of the time. Sometimes I get a good nozzle check, but when printing there still may be some microbanding/lighter print lines. After a headcleaning they have disappeared so far. I bought a continous ink flow system, but I think I would go for refillable carts now. I have heard that the newer model 1290S might clog more easy than the older 1280/90 - I really dont know. I havent seen prints from r2400 and 1290 side by side, but I have seen r1800 and 1290 color prints side by side. I could see some differences, the r1800 was a bit sharper IF you really looked close... for B&W I dont know. I find my 1290 b&W prints to be very nice. My Inkjet prints are different from darkroom wet prints. The blacks are not as black, but good enough for me. The paper is different - I use matte papers and I like the look and feel of it. Good luck! regards FinnK ----------------------- Finn Krogvig -----Opprinnelig melding----- Fra: DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com] På vegne av simaga75 Sendt: 26. februar 2006 14:32 Til: DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com Emne: [Digital BW] B&W prints with epson 1280/1290 ? Hi, I was used to make B&W prints with silver traditional laboratory. Now I would like to switch to numeric B&W prints with a printer like Epson 1280/1290. Could you please advise me about the differents available inks (pigment, carbon) in a qualitative and financial matter ? Let me know your personal experience and your view about the 1280/1290 prints in comparison with silver traditional prints. Please give me your advises about the real visible differences between the prints carried out with a 1280/1290 and a 2400 epson printers for intance ?
