Digital BW, The Print

I  print on th e1160 and have observed that with the normal curves for the
VMs, the prints get too dark in the  darker greys and the highlights not
light enough either, I apply a kind of correction curve but this is not
really the way as it makes something first darker then light again.

Has anyone observed this as well?
