But I can see where the logic goes. If your device can only measure to 2.5D then how can you calculate lower than that with a measurement from your device? Consider that 2.5D is about 0.5% of the light reflected back into the device, that's pretty small. He also said that at that end of the scale, really small measurement variations make a huge swing in the reported density.
