Ink and substrate/coating form a system, all parts effecting to a greater or lesser degree the other parts. The coating on a paper can have an effect on ink longevity. Particularly the porosity of the coating. This is particularly true of dye inks, but should also be true of pigments inks if to a lesser degree. The theory is that the coating can protect the ink from atmospheric pollution. The type of binder used in the coating can also effect ink longevity, as does the effective use of a mordant, again more for dyes than for pigments, but something one can not discount out of hand. I'm sure there are other factors as well, but I haven't seen any papers discussing them. Not that I'm spending a lot of time looking. -- Bruce Watson
